The 2019 Annual Conference: Dueling Diagnoses: Mental Health and Chronic Conditions in Children and Adults
June 13-15, 2019
Each year, MHA's Annual Conference brings together affiliates, consumers, providers, family members and advocates from across the country to talk about important and emerging mental health issues. The 2019 Mental Health America Annual Conference, taking place in Washington, DC from June 13-15, 2019, is themed Dueling Diagnoses: Mental Health and Chronic Conditions in Children and Adults.
2019 Call for Proposals coming this September!
MHA has chosen Dueling Diagnoses: Mental Health and Chronic Conditions in Children and Adults as our conference theme because of its relevance to providers and advocates across the health spectrum.
There is increasing awareness that people with chronic conditions often have both traditional physical and mental health concerns at the same time. Some believe that mental health conditions, like depression, are simply the natural result of having serious physical health conditions, like cancer or heart disease.
This way of thinking is too simple. Not everyone with a physical health condition also has a mental health condition, and people who first have a mental health condition often develop physical health conditions later. Some research shows that some of the same underlying factors, like inflammation or stress or unhealthy environments, may play a role in both, and we know that each may influence the other.
Start thinking about what you or your organization could potentially contribute to the event – and consider submitting a proposal. More details about our 2019 Call for Proposals will be announced in September in News From National. Last year, we set a record with 100+ submitted proposals, so make sure you don’t miss your chance to be part of the action!
