Mental Health America of the Central Susquehanna Valley is a voluntary, non-profit organization affiliated with the National Mental Health Association. Our organization is devoted to the promotion of better mental health and victory over mental illness through advocacy, education, and resource referrals.

In addition, the Mental Health Association administers the Compeer program, whose aim is to bring caring volunteers from our region and mental health clients together in a one-to-one friendship relationship. The Compeer program of the Central Susquehanna Valley is affiliated with the International Association of Compeer programs based in Rochester, New York.

Mental illnesses are oblivious to race, wealth, or social status, affecting one in four American families. Taken together, the estimated 27 million adults and 7.5 million children and youth with a diagnosable mental illness outnumber those with cancer, heart, and lung disease combined.

Despite an astonishing rate of success for treating mental illnesses, only one in five affected people actually seek professional help. The problem: myths and confusion about what mental illnesses are, how to recognize them, and what kinds of treatments are available make it difficult for people to get the help they need.
