In 2006, within the Eau Claire/Chippewa 2-County region

  • 25 residents died by suicide
  • 217 residents were hospitalized with self-inflicted injuries
  • 79 emergency department visits were suicide-related
Suicide is a serious public health problem in our state.

  • It Is the second leading cause of death among young people ages 15 – 24
  • One in five school students reported seriously considering suicide
  • Adult working men and women ages 25 – 64 represent more than two-thirds of the total suicides
  • Males age 75 and older are three times more likely to commit suicide than the general population
  • In 2004 alone, 660 Wisconsin residents took their own lives.

Thanks to the generosity of our partners and sponsors, we are able to offer this important program for $30 (includes instruction, program materials, CEUs and lunch). It is their gift to our community.
