Childhood Depression Awareness Day

Mental health disorders in children are just as real, common and treatable as they are in adults.

Left untreated, children's mental health disorders can lead to problems at home, trouble in school and in the community, substance abuse and even suicide. In fact, depression alone affects as many as one in every 33 children and one in eight teens.

For more than eight years, Childhood Depression Awareness Day (CDAD), which occurs each May during Mental Health Month, has offered affiliates, our partners, like-minded organizations and child advocates an opportunity to come together to focus on childhood depression and other disorders.

Next year, Childhood Depression Day falls on May 8. Check back in early 2007 for more information and materials to help raise the awareness of childhood depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder and ADHD among parents and caregivers.
