Sergio Aguilar, M.D., Ph.D.

Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola, M.D., Ph.D., is professor of Clinical Internal Medicine and director UCD Center for Reducing Health Disparities, University of California, Davis, School of Medicine. Dr. Aguilar's experience includes:

  • Professor, California State University, Fresno,  Department of Psychology, 1998-2005.
  • Director, World Health Organization (WHO) CIDI Training and Reference Center, 1998-present.
  • On-Site principal investigator and director, Mexican-American Prevalence and Services Survey (MAPSS) Project, 1993-present.
  • Member of the National Advisory Mental Health Council (NAMHC), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), 2004-present.
  • Research scientist member of the National Hispanic Network on Drug Abuse (NHSNDA), 2003-present.
  • Coordinator, WHO’s World Mental Health initiative (WMH) in Latin America and the Caribbean, 1999-present.
  • Quality assurance advisor, WHO’s World Health Surveys, 2002-2004.
  • Member, Advisory Board, WHO Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI), 1997-present.
  • Awards: Peabody College of Vanderbilt University Distinguished Alumnus Award, May, 1998; Awarded the Medal of Congress of Chile for work related to mental health research, Santiago, Chile, September 9, 1999; Provost’s Excellence Award for Distinguished Achievement in Research, CSUF, May, 2000; 2002 Outstanding Latino Faculty in Higher Education Award by the American Association for  Higher Education, Hispanic Caucus, March, 2002; 2005 Local Hero of the Year Award sponsored by KVPT Valley Public Televison and Union Bank of California, September, 2005; U.S. DHHS' Office of Minority Health's National Minority Health Community Leader Award (Hispanic Community), Washington, D.C., January, 2006.
