Event Summary

 
The final meeting of the year, Deflection Before Stage Four, was held in Las Vegas on December 14th and coincided with the Conference of State Legislators (CSG) Annual Summit. Rep Steve Eliason of Utah, and Representative Joan Ballweg of Wisconsin received awards at the legislative breakfast. These mental health champions also were featured speakers at the day-long policy meeting, on suicide prevention and diversion and deflection legislative initiatives. Other topics covered included Tardive Dyskinesia (TD); New Treatment Options, New Policy Issues; The Intersection of Mental Health, Criminal Justice and Immigration featuring Gregory Pleasants, JD, MSW, from the Vera Institute of Justice; and America Paredes, Senior Director, Partnerships & Community Outreach at MHA. The meeting concluded with a roundtable on Peer Roles in Deflection B4State4: Opportunities and Challenges, which included Rachel Del Rossi, MHA of San Francisco; Martina Gollin Graves, MHA of Wisconsin; Kasey Moyer, MHA of Nebraska; and Patrick Hendry, from Mental Health America.
